Our staff is what really sets us apart from the big warehouse-style stores. We'll eventually get everyone to sit still for photos but in the meantime, our team consists of.....Dean Brandner (store manager), two full-time supervisors - Hank Venema and Jerry Square, Jr., a full-time paint department head - Ed Pszczola, two part-time supervisors - Deb Square and Darrell Hessenthaler, and some great additional part-timers - Carol Salas, Sue Costoff, Gene Ray, Ron Schell, Mitch Rogers, Yul Johnson, Kathy Ruesch, Ed Olsen, Mallory Voss, Garrick Reshkus, Diego Hernandez and....me - Mike Costoff (owner). I'd better also mention my other two girls - Bailey and Maggie or, I might literally end up in the dog house (theirs).
Dean Brandner (Store Manager) - Ever meet a guy who knows how to do just about anything? That's Dean! He's been the store manager here for around 12 years and I've yet to see a single customer stump him. He's a handyman's handyman! Of course, he's also our resident in-house certified small engine repair technician. Dean's the "Go-To" guy here whenever anyone isn't 100% positive about the answer to a customer's question.
Deb Square (Supervisor) - our longest tenured staff member - over 20 years at Delavan Ace. Everyone likes Deb.It must just run in the family (see "Jerry" below). Besides doing everything, Deb is in-charge of instore merchandising and is one of two folks who reorders our inventory every week.
Sue & Bailey Costoff - at an Ace convention in St. Louis. Wednesdays are many of our customers favorite because that's when our resident baker works the checkout. She bakes a mean batch of treats of one sort or another to bring along and hand-out to our customers. Bailey just hangs out in her customized shopping cart but, most folks love saying hello. Pull on her ears though and you're likely to be heading down to the bandaid aisle!
Jerry Square, Jr. (Supervisor). He's a customer favorite - everyone asks for Jerry! He's only 29 but he joined our staff when he was only 15 - he's been here 14 years already! You'll be pretty hard-pressed to stump Jerry with a question. - he knows his stuff! His mom taught him well (see "Deb" above).
Hank Venema (Supervisor) - Most folks call him "Hardware Hank". We call him "Hankie Spankie" and a few other names we won't mention. Seriously, Hank's been here forever (we lost count and I'm pretty sure he doesn't even want to think about it!). If Hank doesn't know where something is or where it used to be - no one here does! Great guy! Thank God he didn't wear his matching pants!!
Ed Pszczola (Paint Dept. Head) - Ed previously ran the paint department at Bob's Paint & Floor Coverings in Elkhorn. We were happy to have him join our staff after Bob decided to get out of the paint business three years ago. He brought quite a few of his customers along with him and he's gotten the respect of our customers and the contractors in Delavan. If you're looking for technical advice or just some input on the latest colors and trends, come on down and talk to Ed.
"Gene" Ray - Gene's been here for about seven years. He's one of those guys that just hit our salesfloor running when we hired him - a real handyman-type background. Besides helping customers out on the salesfloor, Gene handles about 95% of our screen and window repair work.
Yul Johnson - Beside working here part-time Yul operates his own company - Johnson Construction Co. He's pretty sharp and the odds are heavily in your favor that he'll be able to answer most questions you throw at him.
Kathy Ruesch - Kathy handles our A/R and A/P paperwork. She joined our staff back in...oh oh - December of 1998 - guess who missed her 10 year anniversary? Happy Anniversary Kathy! She does a great job keeping all the bills paid, the receivables coming in and everything filed in it's proper place.
Ed Olsen - Ed's a senior at DDHS and has been with us for about a year-and-a-half. He's reliable, friendly and doesn't ask many questions - that makes life easier for us - and our customers.
Mike & Sue Costoff - I just finished up my 16th year as the owner of the store - how quickly the years have flown by! Who knows where I'd be if I didn't meet my little sweetie and get married back in 2000? Who said "Probably retired by now?" Not me - honest - Sue!
Bailey & Maggie - Here they are - the real brains of our operation. Bailey just celebrated her 4th birthday and Maggie's just 4 months old. If you think your hound would look sharp in custom-made coats like they're wearing - talk to Sue - she's pretty handy with her sewing machine.
